League Example: MLP (Team League)

End-to-end setup and operations guide for an MLP-style team league season.

This guide is for event directors, event managers, and organization admins.

What you’re running

A team-based league with a regular season standings phase and a playoff stage.

Model in Paddles Up

  • One Event with Type = League for the season
  • One Competition named MLP
  • Teams represent your league teams (configure team size to match how you’re tracking rosters)
  • Group Play for regular season standings
  • Bracket for playoffs

End-to-end (UI flow)

1) Create the league season event

  1. Open EventsNew Event.
  2. Select host Organization.
  3. Set Type = League, set season start, and optional season end date.
  4. Tap Create Event.

2) Add participants

  1. Open the league event.
  2. Go to Participants and add all players.

3) Create the competition

  1. Go to CompetitionsAdd Competition.
  2. Set:
    • Name: MLP
    • Team size: set to match how you’re representing teams in the app
  3. Save.

4) Create teams

  1. Open the MLP competition.
  2. Go to Teams.
  3. Create league teams and assign participants to teams.

5) Regular season (Group Play)

  1. Go to PhasesAdd PhaseGroup Play.
  2. Configure groups, ranking algorithm, and match variant.
  3. Set phase to Active when play begins.
  4. Enter match scores weekly to keep standings current.

6) Playoffs (Bracket)

  1. After regular season is complete, add Phase 2 → Bracket.
  2. Include the advancing teams and start playoffs by setting the bracket phase Active.
  3. Enter scores and complete the bracket when finished.

7) End-of-season

  1. Complete the final phase.
  2. Set the event status to Complete.
